What Is TUDCA? A Plain-English Guide to a Bile-Acid Derivative

It turns up in more supplement routines every year, and almost nobody explains it. Here is what it is, what bile does, and how our capsule is meant to be used.

TUDCA is one of those names people repeat without unpacking. The short version: it is a bile-acid derivative, and bile is one of the least glamorous and most useful things your body makes.

This page explains it in plain English, then shows you exactly what is in AD Life TUDCA: a full 250 mg of TUDCA, backed by artichoke leaf, choline, ginger and BioPerine, in one vegan-friendly capsule a day.

The name

Tauroursodeoxycholic acid, unpacked

TUDCA is short for tauroursodeoxycholic acid. Break the word apart and it explains itself. Ursodeoxycholic acid, or UDCA, is a bile acid. "Tauro" means it is joined to taurine, which makes the molecule more water-soluble.

Your body makes small amounts of TUDCA on its own. A supplement gives you a measured amount of it, in one capsule.

The job

What bile actually does

Bile is made in the liver, stored in the gallbladder, and released into the small intestine when you eat. Its main job is to break dietary fat into tiny droplets so it can be digested and absorbed, along with the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. Bile acids are the working part of bile.

That is the whole reason it goes with food. Bile flow is part of the everyday routine around digestion, and it happens at meals.
The capsule

What is in one AD Life TUDCA capsule

A full 250 mg of TUDCA leads the formula. Around it: 200 mg of artichoke leaf extract, 100 mg of choline, ginger root, and BioPerine, the patented black pepper extract. The label says it plainly: supports liver health, healthy bile flow, added artichoke and choline. One veggie capsule, once a day with a meal.

Why TUDCA instead of a long liver blend?

Because the headline ingredient is the point. A full 250 mg of TUDCA per capsule, with artichoke leaf and choline in support, rather than a long list of small amounts.

Bile is released when you eat, and the label directs one capsule a day with a meal.

Is it vegan?

The formula is vegan friendly and comes in a veggie capsule.

What else is in it?

Artichoke leaf extract 200 mg, choline bitartrate 100 mg, calcium 20 mg, ginger root extract 10 mg and BioPerine black pepper extract 5 mg, alongside 250 mg of TUDCA.

How long does a bottle last?

60 capsules at one a day: about two months.
