Carb backloading is the topic on everyone’s lips at the moment in the fitness industry. It’s actually surprising to us at Project AD, because we were aware of creator John Kiefer’s work on it back when it first came out in 2012. With us having a large following of hardcore bodybuilders and lifters in our ranks (the first to popularise the program), we were being fielded questions about it long before it caught on as a conventional method for getting in shape with athletes and fitness enthusiasts around the globe who were just looking to be muscular and lean. Better late than never!
With that being said, there seems to be an immense amount of confusion about how to do carb backloading, when in reality it’s actually a fairly straightforward nutritional program. Here are the key elements:
- Dr Keifer modeled his work off Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes (NIDD) sufferers, studying their various cells and how they respond to resistance training in particular.
- He used these theories to create a program for minimising fat gain and manipulating glycogen and fat cells in order to maximise physique development.
- Keifer believes breakfast is not essential and is overly emphasised by mainstream fitness “experts”.
- During the day you’ll eat around 30grams of carbohydrates at a maximum, focusing on proteins, fats and green vegetables.
- Post-workout consists of a solid protein + carbohydrate formula to kickstart the cell manipulation and anabolism.
- Roughly 1 hour after you’ll start slamming the body with High GI carbs.
- During this period, junk food becomes acceptable due to its high GI nature.
This is the program generally stripped back to its bare bones. You avoid carbs pre-training, and then start backloading them later (usually in the evening, post-training for most individuals).
There is indeed a 10 day recallibration period as well at the beginning where you’re essentially being incredibly disciplined on under 30grams of carbohydrates per day, focusing exclusively on protein and fats. However, we won’t go too in depth on this aspect right now as we’re not prepared to pimp the e-book out for free and discredit Dr Keifer’s great work on the subject.
So, what would a sample day on the Carb Backloading program look like for guy’s wanting to build muscle and STILL get crazy shredded?
Meal 4 (Post-workout) (7:00PM) – 30-40grams of hydrolyzed whey protein / casein with 40-50grams of dextrose + 2 capsules of Project AD’s Matador (Nutrient Partitioner / Anabolic Primer).
Meal 5 (8:00PM) – Chicken, white rice, white bread + 2 capsules of Project AD’s Matador.
Meal 6 (10:30PM) – Loads of high GI carbs from non-wheat sources (be sensible but also give free reign here to your favourite foods if you’re trying to build muscle / scale back if cutting).
Why Use Matador?
Matador is tailor made for carb backloading for several reasons. However, the two primary mechanisms that will really send your results through the roof are:
- It primes insulin, working in synergy with the Carb Backloading theory of driving nutrients to muscle cells and glycogen and away from fat cells.
- It induces insane muscle pumps, roadmap vascularity and will enhance muscular and fat loss gains simultaneously.
The InsuDrive and GlycoForm Blends in Matador go hand-in-hand with the Carb Backloading principles, further strengthening a solid diet into a frighteningly effective nutritional regime.
It was back at the beginning of 2014 we started encouraging users to integrate Matador into their post-workout regimes on Carb Backloading and it’s fair to say the results have been nothing short of breathtaking. We’ve heard and seen reports of huge increases in muscle fullness, pipeline vascularity protruding from the skin and also razor sharp definition from our followers. Most telling of all, these effects are lasting WELL after the initial backload and seem to be a permanent effect of supplementing Matador alongside Carb Backloading.
Just as we thought in the beginning, Matador is tailor made for this program. It could be the product that really takes anabolism and fat loss to a whole different dimension when following the Carb Backloading routine.
